CSCI 145: Data Mining

A course on the mathematical foundations of deep learning.

Instructor: R. Teal Witter. Please call me Teal.

Class Times: Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:45 to 4:00pm in Robert Day 126.

Office Hours: Tuesdays from 1:00 to 4:00pm in Adams Hall 213.

Problem Sets: Problem sets are your primary opportunity to learn the material. You may work with others, but you must write and submit your own solutions and be prepared to explain your reasoning in a brief conversation.

Quizzes: Short five-minute quizzes at the beginning of randomly selected classes test your understanding of the problem sets and concepts from the prior week.

Exams: The two midterm exams are the primary assessment of your understanding of the material.

Project: Choose a useful question, use AI to help execute a reproducible analysis, and tell the resulting story with visual evidence in a public GitHub repository.

Resources: There is no textbook. Each lecture has a reading on this site.
